EuroLeague Chairman and CEO Jordi Bertomeu proposed to the clubs to cancel the 2019-20 Turkish Airlines EuroLeague season, according to Eurohoops sources.
The ECA Shareholders Executive Board opened with Bertomeu proposing the way out. The 11 licensed teams might not even need to vote, in order to prematurely end the 2019-20 campaign.
The licensed clubs, FC Barcelona, KIROLBET Baskonia, Real Madrid, Olympiacos, Panathinaikos OPAP, Maccabi FOX Tel Aviv, Anadolu Efes, Fenerbahce Beko, AX Armani Exchange Milan, Zalgiris Kaunas, and CSKA Moscow were expected to vote if they want to complete the season or not.
On Saturday, player representatives, the captain and one senior squad member of each team, expressed their concerns to Euroleague Basketball. The vast majority did not want the season to resume.
Following up on Saturday’s teleconference, ELPA, EuroLeague Players Association, urged the clubs to cancel the 2019-20 campaign, which was suspended on March 12, in response to the coronavirus pandemic.
