Euroleague Basketball announced on Monday that the 2019-20 Turkish Airlines EuroLeague and 7DAYS EuroCup will not resume. Both European club competitions were suspended since March 12.
The press release issued following the decisions taken by the ECA Shareholders Executive Board includes the plan for the 2020-21 season. No alterations on the 18-team EuroLeague field as the current clubs confirmed places for the next season.
Players were not involved in Monday’s meeting, but on Saturday the vast majority of their representatives stood against resuming action during a meeting with Euroleague Basketball. Below, social media reactions from players on the decision to prematurely end the 2019-20 campaign.
My 1st Euroleague Season didn’t end the way we wanted it to but I had lots of fun playing in the best competition in Europe.

“What we have faced individually and globally is something unique and unprecedented. To cancel the @EuroLeague season was a hard, but correct decision and I would like to thank all involved for taking this difficult step.”

Glad we can focus on trying to make next euroleague season a lot better with players having time to prepare mentally and physically to possibly adapt and play after a world changing pandemic.
