Barcelona GM Nacho Rodriguez spoke on Monday about the cancellation of the 2019-20 Euroleague season and stated that the club’s intention was to conclude the season in July, as EuroLeague’s plan proposed if a season continuation would be possible.
“The intention of Barcelona was to play and finish the season in July, that is why we have spent two weeks training and preparing for the end of the regular season,” Rodriguez told as adapted by Marca.
On Monday morning and after several weeks of deliberation, the Euroleague ECA Shareholders Executive Board decided to end the 2019-20 season without a champion upon its formation.
Rodriguez then explained the reasons behind the decision, as they were also addressed by EuroLeague CEO and President Jordi Bertomeu earlier in the day. “Having seen and analyzed the circumstances of the different countries and the health conditions that could not guarantee the safety of the players and staff members, all Euroleague clubs have decided to cancel the competition,” he concluded.
