CSKA Moscow head coach Dimitris Itoudis talked to Izvestia after EuroLeague’s decision to ultimately cancel the 2019-20 season without naming a champion, stating it was a wise move.
“Today is a sad day for the Euroleague and basketball. At the same time, I think that those in charge, taking into account the circumstances, made a wise decision, which I fully support. We all like to compete, we want to crown the champion, but, unfortunately, this year the champion is COVID-19. And in order to defeat it, appropriate preparation is needed. I want to thank our owners and all the sponsors, and the fans for their patience. It will take us time to accept the reality of this new era, to realize the situation”, Itoudis mentioned.
Itoudis also promised that he, together with CSKA President Andrey Vatutin, will create the strongest team in the current conditions.
“We will explore all the possibilities for this. Obviously, due to a very long pause, the preseason should begin earlier, and our coaching staff will make the best decision on this issue” he added.
