Trey Thompkins confirmed the report that he’s signing a two-year extension with Real Madrid via a post on his Instagram profile and a few hours later, Real Madrid officially announced the deal.
“Excited for two more years at home! #Halamadrid,” Thompkins wrote with a picture of him from the 2018 EuroLeague Final Four when Real Madrid won the championship. The American forward had helped seal the team’s win in the Final vs. Fenerbahce with an offensive rebound and a basket with 18 seconds left.
Thompkins signed with Real Madrid in 2015 after his debut season in EuroLeague with Nizhny Novgorod. He won numerous domestic titles with the “Blancos” apart from the 2018 EuroLeague.
In 2019-2020, Thompkins averaged 10.8 points (a high with Real Madrid) plus 3.9 rebounds in 19:55 minutes over 20 EuroLeague games before the season shut down in March. He had 12.6 points, 3.9 rebounds and 2.2 assists in 24:20 minutes over 13 Spanish ACB League games.
