CSKA Moscow and Baskonia have been negotiating for weeks in regards to Tornike Shengelia’s buy-out in order for the Georgian player to make the move to Russia. CSKA is making the push to sign 28-year-old Shengelia to a three-year deal according to Eurohoops’ information and they are currently in advanced negotiations with Baskonia in regards to it and close to reach an agreement, though it has not been yet finalized.
Shengelia, who signed a lucrative contract extension with Baskonia last summer, has a EuroLeague buy-out option in his contract, as well as an NBA-out has been on CSKA’s radar since last summer when the Army Team made a push to sign him. History repeats itself a year later, although now it is more feasible for the three parties involved to reach an agreement and, therefore, for the Baskonia captain to play in Moscow.
The Georgian leader of Baskonia is currently preparing for the end of the season tournament for the Spanish league. Even if the two sides agree to a deal, it’s expected to become official after the completion of Baskonia’s on-court obligations.
