Euroleague Basketball will hold a board meeting on Monday, 11:00 CET. The most important topic of the conference call will be the financial fair play restrictions and the projected adjustments for the 2020-21 season following the premature ending of the 2019-20 season.
The board members will discuss the coronavirus COVID-19 financial impact leading to adapting the financial fair play restrictions to the current status of the clubs participating in Europe’s premier continental competition, according to Eurohoops sources. Potential adjustments will apply for the 2020-21 season.
Apart from the financial issues brought to Turkish Airlines EuroLeague by the pandemic, the board meeting may extend to Panathinaikos OPAP intending to depart from the league. Euroleague Basketball and the rest of the licensed teams will insist on the position expressed by their recent joint statement.
If the Greens leave EuroLeague, then the Greek club will have to pay 10 million euros to cancel the contract. However, the overall cost can total over 10 million if Euroleague Basketball goes to court and asks for damages.
