Panathinaikos and Deshaun Thomas have decided not the continue together into the 2020-21 season, according to Eurohoops sources.
Although the American forward was committed to a contract for the new year, the two sides decided to terminate their cooperation prematurely, as the 800,000 euros that the player would receive on a contract basis was considered too high of an amount.
The pending issues have already been settled and Thomas will leave without a buy-out but we will see him as all things indicate once again in Euroleague.
Valencia and Baskonia have already been interested in his case. The former wants to fill the gap left by Brock Motum while the latter will move to acquire him if, in the end, Tornike Shengelia leaves Spain for CSKA Moscow. Zenit has had him on the radar as well but there is nothing more at the moment.
Although it is still early, Aaron Wight – who started the season with Olimpia Milano but moved to Iberostar Tenerife – has already been proposed as a potential replacement for Thomas.
Thomas’ sixth EuroLeague season was one of, if not his best so far averaging 13.9 points, 4.4 rebounds, on assist, on steal, and 13.6 index rating. He was the top scorer of Panathinaikos as well as the squad’s third rebounder and second in PIR.
