Prolific scorer Alexey Shved penned a three-year contract extension with Khimki Moscow Region, the Russian team announced on Tuesday.
“Khimki has been my home for a long time. I like everything here and I feel comfortable,” explained the 2018 Alphonso Ford EuroLeague Top Scorer Trophy recipient, “I am glad to continue my career with this club. I really miss basketball and look forward to starting preparations for the next season.”
Apart from the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague top scorer title, Shved was named in the All-EuroLeague second team in 2018, earned the VTB United League MVP in 2017 and 2019 as well. He returned to Khimki in 2015 and re-signed in 2017.
“I am very glad Alexey will continue playing for our team. He is a world class player,” pointed out head coach Rimas Kurtinaitis, “In recent seasons, he not only led Khimki but all of European basketball. This is a good start to our offseason. We will continue with the same attitude aiming our roster to be at least equal to last season’s.”
A young Shved first joined Khimki on loan in 2007. His 2015 comeback followed his NBA run as a member of the Minnesota Timberwolves, Philadelphia 76ers, New York Knicks, and Houston Rockets with the shortened 2019-20 season marking his fifth complete campaign with the Russian outlet.
Up to the early conclusion of the past season due to the coronavirus pandemic, he put up 21.4 points, 6.2 assists, and 2.7 rebounds per EuroLeague match ranking second in total points scored and third in points per game. In addition, Shved averaged 22.4 points per VTB contest.
Likely following up for Khimki will be extending Devin Booker’s contract for two more years and adding Derrick Williams, as previously reported by Eurohoops.
