Barcelona announced that the club is parting ways with coach Svetislav Pesic, a day after the loss to Baskonia in the Spanish ACB League championship game. The two sides reached an agreement for the termination of the coach’s contract that was due to be completed at the end of the 2020-2021 season.

Pesic joined Barcelona for his second stint with the team in February 2018. He led the Blaugrana to win the 2018 and 2019 Copa Del Rey trophies.

Per Barcelona:

Barca and Svetislav Pesic have reached an agreement to terminate the coach’s contract. The club is grateful to the Serbian for his dedication and wishes him good luck, both personally and professionally.

Two Cups

During Pesic’s second stage with the club, which lasted two and a half years since his arrival in February 2018, the coach won two Copas del Rey; in 2018 at Las Palmas, and in 2019, in Madrid.

Barça played in the Euroleague Playoffs again in the 2018/19 season, and finished third (but tied with second) in 2019/20. The team had earned 22 wins and suffered 6 defeats before the cancellation of the season due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

More than 300 matches

In both stages as coach, Svetislav Pesic was in charge for a total of 322 official matches, which included 235 wins, one Euroleague (2003), two ACB Leagues (2003 and 2004) and three Copas del Rey (2003, 2018 and 2019).

The coach’s farewell

“Before starting the Final Phase of the ACB in Valencia, we agreed with the club that this would be my last season as team coach because my job was already done and the time had come to give another person the chance to assume the role.”

“I am proud of my work and the work of the players during these seasons, and I will always be at Barça’s disposal.”

“I want to thank the fans and the board for their support and I wish Barça every success.”
