Tornike Shengelia’s move to CSKA Moscow caused the reaction of Georgian president Salome Zurabishvili, who called the signing “unacceptable”, though CSKA President Andrey Vatutin cleared out things about the player and the Georgian NT in a recent interview with sports.ru. CSKA’s boss noted that from day one of their negotiations, it was highly important for Shengelia to be granted permission to be able to join the NT, and the club delivered it.
“I heard that Tornike’s transition to CSKA is ambiguously perceived in Georgia, but in our activities, we are infinitely far from political motives, engaged in professional sports, are going to just play basketball, delight the audience and win. Nothing more“, said Vatutin.
“Let me highlight that from day one of the negotiations it was crucial for Toko to get permission to play for the NT, which we have now granted. I have great respect for Georgia, its history, we already had signed Giorgi Tsintsadze and Manuchar Markoishvili in the past, so we are waiting for all Toko compatriots at our games”, he added
