The impact of the coronavirus pandemic is affecting teams, including FC Barcelona. Despite bringing in a new head coach in the form of Sarunas Jasikevicius and floor general Nick Calathes, the Spanish powerhouse will actually end up with a reduced budget, according to Mundo Deportivo.
Appearances can be misleading, but Barcelona has previously confirmed a budget drop in early plans for the 2020-21 season. Calathes recently became the first official addition but is not negatively affecting the initial objective regarding reducing expenses.
Wages for players coming in will be lower than the pre-coronavirus era. In addition, Barca will attempt to renegotiate contracts with the players remaining and eventually reduce the overall size of the senior squad from 15 to 13 players.
The 2019-20 season presented Barcelona to the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague and ACB audience with a team-record 41.5 million euros budget. This amount is expected to be decreased by 10% to 15% in accordance with the projected drop in revenue due to the coronavirus pandemic.
