Zenit Saint-Petersburg is seriously considering to sign Greg Monroe, according to Eurohoops sources. Talks between the involved parties are ongoing with the “Moose” still exploring his NBA and overseas options.

Monroe, 30, debuted in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague last season as a member of the FC Bayern Munich squad following nine seasons and 659 games in the NBA. If the Georgetown alum opts to return to Europe’s premier competition, the Russian club stands as one of the strongest contenders to lure him.

Over his first 28 EuroLeague appearances during the prematurely ended 2019-20 season, he posted 12.9 points, 6.8 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 1.3 steals per contest. As for his easyCredit BBL run, he went for 13.2 points per game prior to the hiatus and skipped Germany’s season-ending tournament.

The American center picked up the pace right from the start of his European run. Any EuroLeague team bringing him in for a second campaign would benefit from his 2019-20 experience and likely heavily rely on him for a deep run.

Zenit has come out strong starting the offseason by adding Arturas Gudaitis, Kevin Pangos, Alex Poythress, and Denis Zakharov, and is also looking to acquire K.C. Rivers.
