Panathinaikos Athens and guard Jimmer Fredette will soon be reaching an agreement for the termination of the player’s contract. Fredette had signed a two-year deal with Panathinaikos in June 2019 to make his debut in Europe.
According to Sportando, Fredette is expected to return to China and the Shanghai Sharks where he previously played in 2016-2019.
Fredette wasn’t included in the plans of Panathinaikos for the 2020-2021 season and the Greek club was looking for ways to unload his contract (around 1.7 million) that was considered unaffordable. Panathinaikos president Takis Triantopoulos said that the player is “free to go” during a presser earlier this summer and that the management is waiting for a development in his case.
In 2019-2020, Fredette averaged 12.9 points (shooting 41.7 percent on 108 3-point attempts), 2.1 rebounds, plus 1.8 assists in 21:17 minutes over 27 games of his maiden EuroLeague season and 13.7 points plus 3.2 assists in 19.0 minutes over 18 Greek League matches. Both competitions were canceled amid the coronavirus crisis.
