Panathinaikos Athens and guard Giorgos Kalaitzakis are expected to part ways. The player refused to accept a salary reduction by the club and the new role that he would have on the team.
Kalaitzakis, a projected second-round pick in the 2021 NBA Draft, spent the last season with Lithuanian side Nevezis together with his twin brother Panos, on loan from Panathinaikos. He averaged 12.2 points, 4.3 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.0 steal per game before the Lithuanian League was canceled. He then returned to Greece to join Panathinaikos’ practices.
In 2018, Kalaitzakis had also declared for the NBA Draft but later withdrew.
