CSKA Moscow brought in two big signings in the frontcourt with Nikola Milutiniov and Tornike Shengelia who, paired with Mike James and Will Clyburn, certainly make up for a title-contending lineup.
At the first look, it might seem as a very expensive roster but club president Andrey Vatutin noted that it’s not true and the payroll hasn’t increased compared to teh previous year.
“Our payroll has not grown at all in connection with the arrival of Shengelia and Milutinov, because a number of players have left us. Everyone knows that now there is no need to talk about any financial growth because we have a budget cut. And if we grew in something, then it’s not in money but in the height of the team. Tall guys came to us,” Vatutin said, per RIA Novosti.
It should be noted that while CSKA has Mike James and Mlutinov who are among the ten best paid EuroLeague players, Shengelia’s pay isn’t ranked as high and the club parted ways with Andrey Vorontsevich, Mikhail Kulagin, Howard Sant-Roos, Kyle Hines, Ron Baker and Kostas Koufos this offseason.
