Marc Gasol will be considering continuing his career in Europe according to Xavi Saiso Garcia of radio Ser Catalunya.
Gasol is currently 35 years old and a free agent after completing the 2019-2020 season with the Toronto Raptors. Per Saiso Garcia, a potential decision to return to Europe will have to do mainly with family reasons. Something similar was the case of Nikola Mirotic, who signed with Barcelona to return to Europe in 2019 despite lucrative contract offers to stay in the NBA.
The other option for Gasol will be, of course, staying in the NBA. The league’s free agency will begin in October when the season in European domestic and continental leagues will be underway.
If Gasol chooses the European path, he will leave the NBA after 12 years during which he was a three-time All-Star (2012, 2015, 2017), a DPOY (2013) and a member of the league’s First Team in 2015. Last season he was crowned NBA champion with the Raptors.
In 2019-2020, Gasol averaged 7.5 points, 6.3 rebounds and 3.3 assists, being limited by injury problems.
