Barcelona is making salary cuts amid the coronavirus crisis.

Barcelona’s basketball department won’t be affected by the club’s decision to implement salary reductions and contract modifications to employees of the organization, including the football team, Mundo Deportivo reports. The Blaugrana announced the decision to make these cuts by adhering to article 41* of the Workers Statute on Tuesday (6/10.

The reason for this is that the basketball department, as well as other professional sections of the club, has already made an “effort to reduce wages that the club demanded,” a Barcelona spokesman said to Mundo Deportivo.

Some examples are the cases of Nikola Mirotic, Brandon Davies and Pierre Oriola who renewed their contracts while accepting a reduction of the salary they had agreed to for 2020-21. Barcelona recently announced that Mirotic, the team’s highest-paid player, has extended his contract until 2025.
