Igor Kokoskov is already beloved by Fenerbahce fans after a 2-0 start in the EuroLeague season, however a report by “The Athletic” gives them one more reason to love him.
With Steve Nash still searching for assistant coaches, the Nets reached Kokoskov who denied their offer, according to Alex Schiffer: “An assistant under Gentry in Phoenix who later coached the Suns himself, Kokoskov is currently coaching in Turkey. Kokoskov would also give Nash another former head coach on the bench. A source with knowledge of the situation told The Athletic that there was interest in bringing Kokoskov to Brooklyn, but he prefers to stay in Turkey with his current team”.
After all, Kokoskov has a three-year contract with Fenerbahce which remains one of the most ambitious clubs in Europe. There’s also a big challenge for the Serb coach who has succeeded Zeljko Obradovic, the winningest coach in the history of European basketball.
Kokoskov is eager to lead the 2017 EuroLeague champions to the next chapter of their illustrious club history. As he said after his hiring: “I feel obligated to the Fenerbahce fans and the people who brought me here to give them the best of my abilities, experience, and knowledge to help this club keep being successful as it is. Fenerbahce fans love their basketball team so we will give our best to keep them happy by winning lots of basketball games and trophies.”
