Jordan Loyd scored a new EuroLeague career-high 30 points as Crvena Zvezda captured its first win of the season in EuroLeague by defeating Baskonia 90 – 73 at home. The Serbian side led from start to finish en route to the victory.

“It’s important, we want to get every win we can, so it’s good to build off that chemistry and as the season goes we’ll get better and better. It’s always important to get a home win.”” Loyd said after the game. He also had six rebounds, two assists, two steals and zero turnovers in the 25 minutes he spent on the floor. Marko Simonovic added 16 points with a shooting spree (4-5 triples) of his own and Langston Hall fed his teammates with 11 assists. He also scored seven.

The players of Red Star overall shot 13 – 25 from the 3-point line and were particularly “hot” in the third quarter when they outplayed their opponents 29 – 18 to enter the final period up 65 – 49. Baskonia was simply unable to recover and saw its hosts even increasing their advantage down the stretch.

“In the second half we kept on trying but we couldn’t get back into the game,” Baskonia coach Dusko Ivanovic admitted.

Rokas Giedraitis dropped 26 points for Baskonia, 10 of them in the final period. Luca Vildoza had 13 points, Achille Polonara 10 points while Pierria Henry dished out 10 assists to go with his six points.

Sasa Obradovic enjoys first EuroLeague win with Red Star

He spent seven years as a player of the club and now he got his first EuroLeague victory with them as head coach. Sasa Obradovic had many reasons to smile after the game.

“I’m really happy for the win and also for the way we won,” Obradovic said. “It was incredible and for me personally it feels like we won a trophy, the first EuroLeague win with the club. The sadness is that it was without fans, because we play the game for the fans, so it is sad we won this wonderful game without them.”
