After the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Regular Season Round 4 loss to Zalgiris Kaunas, Anadolu Efes boss Ergin Ataman discussed the atmosphere at the Zalgirio Arena examining the disadvantage unfolding for his team.
“We play in the same competition without homecourt advantage, without fans, but some teams play with fans,” he said, “I have to ask if our government will not let us play in that situation, what’s going on? I want to ask EuroLeague about this. I complain again about how unfair it was to cancel last season and that this season is not a fair situation. If we play in the same competition, we must play with the same fan situation.”
About 5,000 people supported the Lithuanian powerhouse Thursday evening complying with the health guidelines implemented by local authorities to prevent the coronavirus spread. They fueled the Zalgiris players, as admitted post-match by top-scorers Nigel Hayes and Lukas Lekavicius, and head coach Martin Schiller as well.
“The atmosphere is always good here. It was exciting for us to play in such an atmosphere after seven months. But I see many of my colleagues complaining about an unfair environment in EuroLeague this year. I believe this was also an unfair situation,” he added.
