Rick Pitino confirmed that he remains intent on coaching the Greek national team in the 2021 Olympic Qualifiers, as he told Marc Stein of The New York Times.
Greece will be playing in the Qualifying tournament of Victoria, Canada that is planned to take place on Jun2 26 to July 4. Czech Republic, Turkey, China, Uruguay and host Canada are also participating in the tournament and will compete for a ticket to the Olympic Games of Tokyo.
The presence if NBAers in the Qualifiers and the Olympics remains a big question mark, pending the calendar of the 2021 NBA season. While NBA commissioner Adam Silver has said that he doesn’t see the league starting earlier than January, there have been reports that December 22 is considered for the launch fo the new season.
In the meantime, it has been reported that NBA players, including major stars, are pushing for the season to begin on January 18, Martin Luther King day.
