The practically conflicting schedules of Turkish Airlines EuroLeague and FIBA made out additional issues for Anadolu Efes.
The Turkish team coached by Ergin Ataman prevailed over Crvena Zvezda mts Thursday in a EuroLeague Regular Season Round 11 affair even if a number of his players, including naturalized star Shane Larkin, spent the first days of the week practicing with the Turkish national team, returned to Efes and now they are expected back to the national team.
“Euroleague and FIBA must find a solution. The players want to compete with their national team, there’s sentiment involved in playing for the national teams,” said Ataman referring to the current complicated status of several players balancing between the club and international levels.
“We have to give the players a break. Let’s play seven double-game weeks rather than five, let the players play comfortably for their national teams,” he added on his approach, “We need to promote basketball, and basketball is not played only in the EuroLeague. The national teams are very important.”
