Austine Rubit scored 18 points, four more Zalgiris players scored in double-digits and the Kaunas club got an impressive 99-62 win over Fenerbahce, tying its record for the biggest win ever in their EuroLeague history.
The game ended up being totally one-sided with Zalgiris leading by 20 (51-31) by halftime and never looking back after that. Nando De Colo scored 14 points for the losing side, but that just a footnote on a trainwreck of a game.
Fenerbache was plain awful even on the percentage of their free throws, making only 5 out of 12. Meanwhile, Zalgiris dished 31 assists, while making just 12 turnovers and shot 53,3% in threes, making things even simpler on the court.
As Zalgiris coach Martin Schiller said: “The energy was extremely important, to bring that energy. The first quarter broke it open. And then we had very good alertness in the third quarter to bring the game home quickly in a way. Those two things were very important. I’m very happy [about our three-point shooting]. We had 31 assists, which goes hand in hand with making shots, but also with moving the basketball and breaking the paint before you move the basketball. And I thought the guys did a good job in that.”
Marius Grigonis who added 12 points for the winning side, agreed: “I’m most happy about the two wins. A double week and it’s perfect. I don’t want to talk about what we did well or not. I’m happy about the win. We still need one more win to finish a perfect week. So I am just happy and enjoying the moment.”
The game started with the hosts having a 24-7 start in the first quarter and Fenerbahce couldn’t recover after that.
