FC Bayern Munich held off TD Systems Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz and with a 77-66 victory in Round 15 of the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague, they move up to a 10-5 record.
Bayern returned to action after a narrow defeat against Zenit earlier this week and was paced by Jalen Reynolds who saved the day and flirted with double-double digits, posting 21 points and 9 rebounds for a PIR of 29 in less than 18 minutes on the court.
Despite only scoring 30 points in the first half, Baskonia regrouped after the break to put the pressure on the hosts, trimming the deficit to as close as 4 points towards the end of the third quarter. A 7-0 run by the hosts entering the final quarter restored the lead to double digits, keeping Bayern safe until the end.
“I am happy that we won the game despite that we looked like zombies in the last quarter. They had one more day and you saw it in the last quarter. We found the way to win the game. It was important. Still a lot of work to do, a lot of details to work on, but it is easier to work when you win”, mentioned Andrea Trinchieri after the game.
Wade Baldwin contributed 17 points and 3 rebounds in this victory, Paul Zipser had 13 points and Leon Radosevic tapped 11 points and 7 rebounds.
The Spanish side slipped further down the standings with their third consecutive loss to a 6-8 record. Zoran Dragic was the leading scorer for Dusko Ivanovic’s squad with 13 points, Rokas Giedratis posted 10 points and 7 rebounds, while Achilles Polonara tapped 10 points and 11 rebounds.
