ASVEL signed guard Derrick Walton to a contract for the rest of the season, the French club announced. Walton returns to EuroLeague where he previously had 17 appearances with Zalgiris Kaunas in 2018-2019 and is expected to make his debut vs. Anadolu Efes on January 8.
“We’re delighted to welcome Derrick to our club,” ASVEL president Tony Parker said. “With a 2021 schedule that is promising to be busy, we quickly positioned ourselves for the necessary arrival of a new player in this position but we wanted to take take our time to not have someone with the wrong profile. We wanted someone who fits in perfectly with our team and we confidence in him to succeed in doing so quickly.” Walton had signed with the Philadelphia 76ers earlier this month and was later waived on December 14.
Last season, Walton played 23 with the Los Angeles Clippers before briefly joining the Detroit Pistons. His last in Europe with Alba Berlin in 2019 posting 9.8 points and 4.4 assists in 20.3 minutes.
