Real Madrid is acquiring experienced Alex Tyus from Galatasaray as Eurohoops reported Sunday and coach Pablo Laso commented on the upcoming arrival of the 32-year-old former EuroLeague champion.
“I didn’t know he was transferred already”, said Laso light-heartedly when asked about the signing after Real’s victory against Anadolu Efes in Istanbul. “I think Tyus is a guy that has a lot of experience in EuroLeague, and it’s probably a player we needed from the beginning of the season because we’re gonna kill Tavares”, he added.
Tyus began the season with Galatasaray and has posted 8.3 points, 4 rebounds and 1.7 assists in 3 BCL contests and will make his return to the EuroLeague after last playing for Maccabi in the 2018-19 season.
Speaking about the game and Real Madrid‘s win, coach Laso added: “I am very happy for my team and the way my players responded to a difficult circumstance. I already suffered Shane [Larkin] a lot of times, we know how able he is to score. All the players who defended him, Carlos [Alocen] at the beginning, then Jeff [Taylor] and Fabien [Causeur], did a great job. But it’s a team defense that has to stop Shane, he’s a great player and we had to try to put down his numbers without allowing someone else’s numbers to go up. In the end it had to be team defense, knowing that Efes has great players.”
