Barcelona and Thomas Heurtel have mutually agreed to part ways, the club announced. Heurtel had been out of the team’s roster for months, having made his last appearance in a EuroLeague win over Barcelona early in December.
Heurtel’s role on the team had been decreasing since the beginning of the season and the player was looking for a way out of Barcelona. The relationship between the veteran playmaker and the Blaugrana reached a breaking point when he was was prohibited to board the plane of the team back home from Istanbul following a game vs. Anadolu Efes.
If Heurtel signs with a EuroLeague club, he will be eligible to compete only on a domestic level (except ACB due to a clause in his termination deal with Barca) since the deadline for transfers from one EuroLeague club to another has expired.
Barcelona acquired Heurtel in 2017. Over these three years, Heurtel led the team to winning the back-to-back Copa Del Rey titles of 2018, 2019 while earning MVP in both tournaments. He was named member of the All-ACB Second Team in 2018 and 2019.
