FC Bayern Munich recovered from its two-game slip to add up to Khimki’s woes with a 95-93 victory on the road in Round 22 of the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague.
The German side overcame a double-double of 32 points and 11 assists by Alexey Shved and moved up to a 13-9 record in the standings. Khimki managed to fight back from a 26-15 deficit in the first quarter to even things at 44 points by halftime, though couldn’t complete the comeback against Bayern despite Shved’s significant efforts in crunch time.
“We are in a tough moment, missing players, and we are not playing our best. This happens in a season like this. And tonight was a nightmare to play because [Khimki] played with five guards at the same time. So everybody can shoot the ball, the three-point shot. We didn’t play a great game, but we won a great game”, said coach Andrea Trinchieri after the game.
Nick Weiler-Babb posted a new career-high with 25 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists for a total PIR of 37 to lead Bayern to this victory. James Gist posted his best performance with Bayern so far with 19 points and 8 rebounds, while Jalen Reynolds tapped 17 points along with 6 boards. Wade Baldwin and Paul Zipser added up 10 and 11 points each.
The Russian side lacked Jordan Mickey whose wife just gave birth to their daughter and the team was significantly hit around the paint. Dairis Bertans posted 15 points and Errick McCollum had 12 for Khimki that falls further down to a 2-20 record with a 13-game slip.
