Khimki Moscow Region’s woes extend past the court lines this season, as reports surfacing from RIA Novosti, citing sources close to the team, mention that the team has a nearly 250 million rubles debt towards its players (~2.8M euros) and they have yet to receive their monthly wages for the last three months.
In the previous weeks, Khimki has announced the termination of several contracts, namely those of Jonas Jerebko, Greg Monroe and Dairis Bertans, while Devin Booker and Stefan Jovic remain off the team’s stacks as well.
The foreign players of the Russian club (Jordan Mickey, Errick McCollum and Janis Timma), including also natives Alexey Shved, Sergey Karasev, Viacheslav Zaytsev and Sergey Monya continue to practice with the team, though Mickey and McCollum could use their right to exit the squad in the near future, according to the report.
Just on Tuesday, the team managed to break its 17-game losing spell in EuroLeague with a victory over Real Madrid, though the current events show no signs of improvement until the end of the regular season.
It should be noted that regardless of the players’ decision to stay or leave the club, the overdue payables should be settled in accordance with their contracts.
