Vincent Poirier has set some pretty clear goals that he wants to reach with Real Madrid: Getting his own first championship title while helping his new club add a couple of more to its massive trophy case.
“What motivates me most is to win a trophy,” Poirier said in his first statements as Real Madrid, per the club. “That’s the crowning moment and I’ve never had the chance to win the league in Spain, the EuroLeague or any trophies in France, so what I want to do now is win something with the team, which is as good as it gets.”
Poirier signed with Real Madrid to return to Spain after a stint in the NBA, first with the Boston Celtics for 2019-2020 and then with the Philadelphia 76ers for the first half of the current season. He is back in the EuroLeague where he last played with Baskonia in 2017-2018, having a standout season of 11.9 points, 8.3 rebounds and 1.1 assists.
“I’m aiming to perform better than I did in my first stint in the EuroLeague, but right now I’m not the most important thing, the team is,” Poirier said. “I’ve just come back from the NBA, so all I want to do now is contribute to the team and not think about me. When you join a club like Real Madrid, individual players don’t matter.”
“He’s a great player. I’ve faced him many times and we’ve enjoying great rivalry,” Poirier said. “I think that everything will go well for us and I can’t wait to share the court with him and line up alongside him. He’s a defensive specialist. I’ve seen that his game has really come on, so I can’t wait to play with him”.
