Zenit St. Petersburg and Barcelona dueled on the court for a spot in the Final Four and their rivalry may translate to the summer market for Kevin Pangos. According to Eurohoops sources, the Canadian point guard who stole the show in the playoffs has a two-year offer on the table by the Russian club, but he is taking his time and will explore his options.
With point guards being a commodity no matter what and the NBA plucking them away from the European market, Pangos can aim even for the other side of the Atlantic. And in the meantime, every top European team which is in need of a floor general has him on their list.
However, a really intriguing scenario is a possible return of Pangos to Barcelona in order to create a dreamlike duo with Nick Calathes. After all, Sarunas Jasikevicius who helped Pangos established himself on the top level of Europe when the two of them worked together in Zalgiris Kaunas, more than appreciate his game.
Still, it has to be noted that Barcelona may not be able to offer more big contracts this summer, after creating one of the best rosters ever in the EuroLeague history last summer. As Chema de Lucas explained to the “2contra1” podcast, Pangos may end up being too expensive as a possible addition for Barcelona. On the other hand, Barcelona will need a boost on the backcourt with Leandro Bolmaro being NBA-bound.
In any case, Pangos’ future is not yet decided, more top-level suitors like Anadolu Efes may emerge and the summer in Saint Petersburg is expected to be hot.
