Anadolu Efes extends Ergin Ataman for two more seasons

Anadolu Efes has signed head coach Ergin Ataman to a two-year contract extension, the team officially announced Thursday.

Just on Tuesday, Efes survived a thrilling series against Real Madrid to move to the 2021 Cologne Final Four where they will fight for a spot in the EuroLeague final against reigning champions CSKA Moscow.

Ataman reunited with Efes in 2017 and has led the team to the 2019 Turkish League title. This is his third stint with the club, after two runs between 1999-2001 and 2008-10.

Widely considered the best and most successful Turkish coach, Ataman has won the EuroCup (2016), the Saporta Cup (2002), and FIBA EuroChalllenge (2012), while also winning four Turkish League championship titles and four Turkish Cups.

Ataman started his coaching career with Turk Telekom Ankara in 1996. He has also coached Fortitudo Bologna and Siena in Italy as well as Pinar Karsiyaka, Galatasaray, Ulker, and Besiktas in his native Turkey. In addition, Ataman coached the Turkish national team from 2014 to 2016.

He has been on the bench for 291 EuroLeague games this century, with a 144-147 record (49.5% wins).
