Fenerbahce fought back and overcame a rough patch early in the season to make it to the EuroLeague playoffs series against CSKA Moscow and star big man Jan Vesely believes the team could have made it to the Final Four, hadn’t it been for his injury and COVID-19 positives within the team.
“We had very good momentum. If it weren’t for my injury, the COVID-19 cases in the team, and if we could have been full roster, I believed that we could make it to the Final Four”, told the 2019 EuroLeague MVP in a recent interview with DHA. “Maybe we still would not have had the home-court advantage, but I had thought we could be one of the four teams over there”.
Vesely also talked about not being included in this season’s All-EuroLeague First Team, after three selections in recent years (2016, 2018, 2019).
“It’s not something I put much emphasis on”, said the 31-year-old big. “Their decision. I was aiming to support my team and get to the best point. We couldn’t do it this year. I hope it will be better next year. We will do things.”
Vesely finished the EuroLeague season with averages of 13.1 points, 5.3 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 0.9 steals across 28 minutes in 31 contests.
