Anadolu Efes ended a three-season dream run with the EuroLeague title last week and GM Alper Yilmaz looks ahead to the “next day”, with so much interest drawn on EuroLeague and Final Four MVP Vasilije Micic and the sensational Shane Larkin.
Yilmaz admits that if both desire to pursue their next goal overseas there’s nothing he can do from his side, while he wants both to succeed after offering Efes its first-ever EuroLeague trophy.
“We want them to stay. But in the end, in an environment where going to the NBA has become so easy, I don’t know how we can prevent such successful players from leaving“, said Yilmaz on BeIn Sports.
“They have a desire to play in the NBA, and they deserve it until the end. I don’t know if they will go if they get a good offer, but I know they are happy at our club. There’s nothing I can do if they really want to go to the NBA, but I think players who have helped us so much, we should help them achieve their dreams. Of course, the issue of how to fill their place is a bit of a challenge, but we do not prefer them to leave. If they go, we will do our best”.
Just on Sunday, after the big final, Micic told Eurohoops he’s not all that worried about going to the NBA. “This is something that I have kind of experienced before and I like to stay grounded”, said the Final Four MVP. Time will tell what the future holds for both players.
