Sergey Karasev signed a one-year deal with Zenit Saint-Petersburg, the Russian club announced Monday.
“I am really happy to join Zenit after its great season both in Russia and in the EuroLeague as well,” he said, per the team’s press release, “I am even a little flattered by the attention shown to me by Xavi Pascual, as announced the best coach of the VTB United League. I am looking forward to the start of the training camp, but for now, I will keep practicing individually.”
Karasev, 27, spent three seasons with Zenit between 2016 and 2019. He went on to Khimki Moscow Region before returning to his hometown team. He previously recorded 95 NBA appearances attached to the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Brooklyn Nets from 2013 to 2016.
“He is a great player, who will undoubtedly help our team in the next season,” noted Spanish head coach Xavi Pascual, “Over the course of his career, Sergey has proved to be a versatile player, able to play as a shooting guard and a small forward.”
The son of former player and coach Vasily Karasev averaged 4.8 points and 1.8 rebounds per Turkish Airlines EuroLeague game the last two seasons with Khimki.
