Mario Hezonja’s return to Europe with Panathinaikos after spending five seasons in the NBA has caught the attention of his former club FC Barcelona, which is looking to bring back the Croatian player next season.
As reported by SER’s Pacojo Delgado, the 2021 Liga Endesa champions are close to bringing 26-year-old Hezonja back. On top of that, Barcelona has asked Cory Higgins for a 10% salary cut, and the player is likely to refuse and move on to Olimpia Milano.
It should be noted that Hezonja has a clause in his contract with Barcelona that applies to all European teams and no club can sign him without paying the respective amount to the Spanish side. Hezonja joined the Greens this season with the permission of Barcelona and posted an average of 14.4 points, 2.5 rebounds, 1.3 assists in 8 games upon his EuroLeague return.
UPDATE: Hezonja denied the report linking him to Barcelona on his twitter account, stating the following:
Paco striking de Madrid. With opiniones personales. I love this game. Also, Cory deserves at least 10% INCREASED salary for what he did for them IMO. And Paco, I don’t have an agent ? https://t.co/KzJyZKkRF1
