Zalgiris Kaunas announced that the club has penned a 1+1 deal with Niels Giffey who has left ALBA Berlin after seven seasons.
Per Zalgiris:
Zalgiris continues to build up its roster for the upcoming season, as the Lithuanian champions announced the signing of forward Niels Giffey. The 30-year-old signed on the dotted line of a 1+1 contract.
Giffey spent the last seven seasons in ALBA Berlin and will be leaving the team on a high note, as they claimed the German league title last Sunday, defeating Bayern Munich 3-1 in the Finals series.
Giffey played a total of 34 games in the German top division, averaging 20 minutes of action for 10.2 points on 40% shooting from downtown, 3.6 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 10.7 efficiency.
His averages were slightly lower in the EuroLeague, as he put up an average of 8.1 points, 2.9 rebounds and 8.3 efficiency.
Before his seven-year tenure with ALBA, the Berlin-born-and-raised Giffey played for the University of Connecticut in 2010-2014 and became an NCAA champion twice, in 2011 and 2014.
