Another Greek player that has marked the past two decades of European basketball has decided to retire. After Vassilis Spanoulis and Nikos Zisis, Ioannis Bourousis put an end to his career and has retired.

Bourousis played for AEK, Barcelona, Olympiacos, Olimpia Milano, Real Madrid, Baskonia, Panathinaikos, Zhejiang Lions, Gran Canaria, and Peristeri throughout his 20-year-long journey.

He won the EuroLeague in 2015 with Real Madrid and was named twice to the All-EuroLeague First Team (2009, 2016). Among the domestic trophies, Bourousis has five of them from Spain and five coming from Greek competitions.

When it comes to the national team, the big man won gold in 2005 and bronze in 2009, both at EuroBaskets.

As he wrote on IG: “All good things must come to an end”. Bourousis mentions all his professional clubs in his message but has a special note for the Greek national team: “I would like to make a special reference to the National team that I served for 15 years in an unforgettable journey through which I lived great moments. There is nothing more important for an athlete than wearing a jersey with his country’s flag. I experienced great joys, sorrows, but also amazing experiences. I made many friends, I matured as an athlete and despite the obstacles, even the distances that in some cases existed, I tried to be present, in order to represent my homeland with dignity”.
