Fenerbahce BEKO general manager Maurizio Gherardini spoke at a press conference, discussing mostly the offseason as well as the upcoming challenges.

After noting that it was a difficult situation due to the timing of Igor Kokoskov’s departure back to the NBA, he explained how they decided on taking Aleksandar Djordjevic as the replacement. Gherardini also noted that he has known Djordjevic for a long time and has utmost respect for him.

“As we said before, it was a very difficult time, but despite that time, we had a few options. The most important for us was his knowledge, education, coaching career, personality and coaching style. We evaluated them among those. I’ve known Djordjevic for nearly 30 years and he’s always been someone I admired but never had the opportunity to work with. We’ve looked at everything in all these reviews. He also worked with some of our current players, which was an advantage. There were other good options as well.”

The GM also mentioned the unresolved statues of some players, especially noting that Bobby Dixon will get a farewell in case they part ways, as he was instrumental in the team’s success over the years.

“If we do not continue with Ali Muhammed (Bobby Dixon), of course, a farewell ceremony will be held for him. He is an athlete who is very important to us and whom we love and respect. He has given us so much, and we want to give him everything we can.”
