Alberto Abalde has suffered a quadriceps injury, Real Madrid announced Wednesday.

Abalde, 25, scored 13 points in the recent prep game win versus UCAM Murcia. Saturday’s fixture marked the last prep game ahead of the Supercopa semifinal against host Lenovo Tenerife coming up next Saturday. FC Barcelona and Valencia will also battle it out in the semifinals, while the winners will meet each other on Saturday to conclude the tournament.

Following his solid outing opposite Murcia, Abalde was tested by the medical staff and eventually diagnosed with the right quad injury. Further tests will determine the severity of the injury and a timetable for his return to action. However, he can be considered doubtful to play in this weekend’s Supercopa.

The Spanish forward joined the ranks of Madrid prior to the 2020-21 season. He posted 7.2 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per Turkish Airlines EuroLeague game, and 7.3 points per ACB contest.

Apart from Abalde, Anthony Randolph and Trey Thompkins will remain sidelined through the Supercopa. Barring another unexpected setback, the remaining players will be available as Pablo Laso’s side prepares to compete at Santiago Martin.

The Whites landed Adam Hanga, Nigel Williams-Goss, Guerschon Yabusele, and Thomas Heurtel during the offseason. Returning players include Walter Tavares, Sergio Llull, and Rudy Fernandez.

The opening game of the 2021-22 EuroLeague season brings defending champion Anadolu Efes to Spain’s capital on September 30.
