A year after his retirement, former CSKA Moscow forward Sammy Mejia has joined sports marketing and talent management company, Wasserman, as an agent.
In his new role, Mejia will be focused on European players, coming as a replacement for George David who recently parted ways with Wasserman to join the Detroit Pistons.
Mejia retired from professional basketball in 2020, after spending his last five seasons with Turkish side Tofas. A former All-EuroCup First Team member with Banvit (2015), Mejia has also played professionally for Cholet, AEL, Orlandina and G League’s Fort Wayne Mad Ants.
Per the press release:
Wasserman hired former professional player Sammy Mejía as an agent in their basketball division, where he will focus primarily on growing Wasserman’s industry-leading international basketball practice.
Mejía has an acute sense of the global basketball landscape, having been drafted by the NBA and playing professionally for 13 seasons with experience in the G League, Italy, Greece, France, Russia, and Turkey. He was also a member of the Dominican Republic national team, and counts winning the 2011 French League Foreign MVP and being named 2015 All-EuroCup First Team as two highlights in a decorated playing career that concluded upon his retirement last year. Mejía played collegiately at DePaul University before being selected by the Detroit Pistons in the 2007 NBA Draft.
