Tornike Shengelia will remain out of action for at least two months, CSKA Moscow announced Friday.
Per CSKA: “The forward of our team Tornike Shengelia is out of action for a long time due to an injury to the right shoulder joint received in the Euroleague game against Zenit.
At the moment, the basketball player has undergone an examination at the GMS Clinic, further treatment tactics and recovery times will be determined after the conclusion of the consultation. According to preliminary estimates of doctors, Toko will miss at least two months.”
Shengelia, 30, was initially ruled out for the home fixture opposite Crvena Zvezda mts, scheduled to be held tonight, Friday, at the bottom end of the first double-week of the 2021-22 Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Regular Season. The health update on his right shoulder keeps him sidelined much beyond the Round 4 game until he is re-evaluated in mid-December.
The Georgian forward was coming off back-to-back MVP awards in Round 2 and Round 3 of EuroLeague. The spectacular showings early in his ninth campaign in Europe’s premier club continental competition have skyrocketed his averages to 21.0 points. 6.0 rebounds, 1.7 assists, and 1.3 steals per contest. CSKA went off to a 2-1 start. The Russian club also carries a 3-0 record in the VTB United League.
Nikola Milutinov (knee) and Marius Grigonis (back) are also sidelined for Round 3. Adding on the injury issues, recent signing Kenneth Faried is not yet available for the team coached by Dimitris Itoudis. Joel Bolomboy, 52nd pick of the 2016 NBA draft and former player of the Milwaukee Bucks and Utah Jazz, is likely to get additional playing time moving forward.
