Alec Peters, yet to make his first appearance in the 2021-22 season due to a knee injury, will undergo surgery on Tuesday, Bitci Baskonia announced Sunday evening. He is sidelined indefinitely.

Peters, 26, was projected as a key player for the team coached by Dusko Ivanovic. However, he has been held to medical treatment through his second campaign at Baskonia so far and will ultimately need surgery following the long run on the injury list.

The former Valparaiso standout picked up the injury during the preseason.

He had 10.1 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 1.2 assists per Turkish Airlines EuroLeague match over the 2020-21 season. Domestically, he put up 10.4 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 1.2 assists per ACB contest.

Baskonia became his third team in the EuroLeague during the 2020 offseason. He helped CSKA capture the title of Europe’s premier club continental competition in 2019 and moved to Anadolu Efes for the 2019-20 season. The move to Europe followed 20 NBA games as a member of the Phoenix Suns after being selected with the 54th overall pick of the 2017 NBA draft.

With Peters sidelined, the team based in Vitoria-Gasteiz has mostly been struggling this season. The 3-4 W-L tally in EuroLeague combined with the 3-5 run in the Spanish League paint the picture so far.

Coming off four losses in a row across all competitions, Baskonia is heading to a new week with home games versus Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv in Round 8 of EuroLeague and Unicaja Malaga in Round 9 of the Spanish League on Friday and Sunday, respectively.
