Zalgiris Kaunas has signed Regimantas Miniotas to a one-year contract, the team announced Thursday.
Miniotas, 25, made his pro debut as a member of the Lithuanian powerhouse. He since moved to fellow LKL sides, Prienai and Nevezis, before joining Surne Bilbao during the 2020-21 season. In 2021-22, he averaged 4.6 points and 3.9 rebounds per ACB contest over ten appearances.
Per the press release: “The injury-ridden Zalgiris will strengthen its frontcourt with a familiar face, as the Lithuanian champions have announced an agreement with 208 cm tall Regimantas Miniotas. The 25-year-old joins Zalgiris on a 1-year deal.
The big man who can play two positions spent this season in the top tier Spanish division, representing Surne Bilbao. He left the Basque side and will shortly join Zalgiris.
“We know Regimantas well, as he took his first professional steps in our system. He’s a versatile player that can help our team in two positions. Especially now, when unexpected injuries have made even our practice process difficult. Having found out that he’s left his former team, we made him an offer, as we had no possibilities to pay a buy-out. We think he hasn’t reached his peak yet, and now has an opportunity to prove himself at the next level,” – noted Zalgiris director Paulius Motiejunas.
Miniotas left for Spain mid-last season after a terrific showcase for Prienai, where he averaged 18.5 points, 10.5 rebounds and 2.8 assists in the Betsafe-LKL.
After moving to Bilbao, he averaged 7.1 points, 4.3 rebounds in the Spanish league and 7.8 points and 6.3 rebounds in the FIBA Champions League.”
