Will Clyburn was the man of the hour to hand CSKA Moscow a 77-74 victory against visiting FC Bayern Munich at home in Round 12 of the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague.
Clyburn placed CSKA ahead for the first time in the second half (70-69) and aimed perfectly to tie things up again at 73 points with just a minute left in the game, while he delivered the final blow in the last second as he emerged to the basket. Notably, he scored all of his 17 points in the second half.
Alexey Shved and Tornike Shengelia added up 12 points for the Army Team and Daniel Hackett had 10, as the team grabbed its second straight victory to improve to a 7-5 record.
CSKA overshadowed a season-high performance for Darrun Hilliard who dropped 18 of his total 28 points in the first half against his former club.
Under Hilliard’s threat, CSKA trailed 41-32 at halftime, though that was meant to change in the third quarter when the hosts outscored Bayern 24-16 to make it a one-point game after 30 minutes (56-57).
Bayern managed to restore a short lead heading into the fourth quarter, though Joel Bolomboy (5 points, 3 blocks) leveled the score to 67 points with four minutes to play.
Deshaun Thomas picked up 17 points and had a few decisive moments in the second half. Captain Vladimir Lucic tried to save the day in the final seconds, though his efforts fell short and Clyburn found his way to the basket to end Bayern’s two-game streak. The German side now falls to a 5-7 record.
