Augustine Rubit made three big shots down the stretch, ASVEL finished the game with just two points in the last five minutes and FC Bayern got the 73-65 win over ASVEL.
To be exact, Bayern finished the game on a 9-2 run with Rubit making six of those points.
In total Rubit had 19 points and 12 rebounds. Vladimir Lucic added 18 points and 8 rebounds and Bayern despite missing injured Darrun Hilliard.
“We were able to adapt and a different defense”, were the keys of the game for coach Andrea Trinchieri as he said after the final buzzer.
“We responded as a team and we played also for Hilliard… For me this game was super important, I expected that we will bounce back, but I didn’t know if our problems would be bigger than our motivation”.
In a game of runs, ASVEL got a 20-12 first-quarter lead, but Bayern answered and got a one-point advantage (39-38) at the end of the first half.
The hosts even built a 12-point advantage (58-54) in the third period, however entering the last quarter ASVEL was trailing just by four (58-54), and just five minutes before the final buzzer they were behind by one (64-63).
“We are disappointed because we had a good start, we were right where we wanted to be, but after that, we have to give credit to Bayern”, said ASVEL coach TJ Parker.
Elie Okobo with 14 points was the top scorer of the losing side which dropped to a 7-6 record, while Bayern is just behind them at 6-7.
