Crvena Zvezda was able to recompose from Tuesday’s defeat to Barcelona and took down FC Bayern Munich 81-78 in Belgrade for Round 16 of the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague. The Serbian side has now won three of its last four games.
After a tight contest for 30 minutes, Zvezda scored 11 points without reply for their largest lead of the game (78-70) in the mid-point of the fourth period. Bayern shut down from that point and despite the efforts of Ognjen Jaramaz (11 points) for a comeback, they couldn’t ultimately escape with the victory.
Nikola Kalinic led the efforts of the hosts and lifted the spirit of the home crowd with 20 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists.
Branko Lazic poured 12 points and Nikola Ivanovic picked up 11 points.
On the other end of the court, Vladimir Lucic finished the game with 21 points and 4 rebounds to lead all Bayern players. Nick Weiler-Babb contributed 16 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists and Othello Hunter had a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Coach Andrea Trinchier commented on his team’s defeat: “Great game. Both teams played super hard”, he said “I believe we showed a completely different face [from Wednesday at Olympiacos]. Don’t forget we played 48 hours ago, both road games against two very tough opponents, so I believe we bounced back. Not enough to win the game, but we bounced back.”
The two teams now share a 7-9 record in the EuroLeague standings.
