Maccabi clarifies rumors about Giannis Sfairopoulos: “He will continue to coach the club”

Following much speculation about Giannis Sfairopoulos’ future in Maccabi Tel Aviv and the club’s eighth consecutive defeat in EuroLeague on Wednesday, the management released a statement in support of the Greek coach.

In the said statement, Maccabi clarifies that Giannis Sfairopoulos will remain on the bench, while the team is working on exploring its options for further reinforcements.

Per Maccabi’s Thursday release:

“The management of Maccabi Tel Aviv basketball club met tonight, Thursday, and discussed the situation of the team. The management wants to put an end to the speculation and make it clear that Giannis Sfairopoulos will continue to coach Maccabi Tel Aviv. At the same time, management will continue to explore all options for strengthening the group. The owners are interested in conveying a clear message to Maccabi’s dedicated and loyal fan base, that the current situation deprives them of sleep and that they are working night and day to bring the team back to the king’s road”.

Maccabi currently holds a 7-11 record in the EuroLeague and faces Baskonia in Tel Aviv on January 6 for Round 19.
