Deutsche Telekom and Euroleague Basketball have signed an agreement that makes Europe’s telecommunications leader the new home of Turkish Airlines Euroleague television broadcasts in Germany. The agreement runs until the end of the 2015-16 Euroleague season.
Under the new agreement, Deutsche Telekom will offer and broadcast all home games of German clubs in the Euroleague, which this season includes Brose Baskets Bamberg and FC Bayern Munich. Additionally, Deutsche Telekom will broadcast another Euroleague game during each round of the competition in which no German club is participating. The games of the Euroleague will be offered live and in HD on the Entertain IPTV service and on PCs, tablet PCs and smartphones. It can be booked directly on the website at www.telekombasketball.de.
“With the Final Four on its way to Berlin next spring, we are excited to have Germany’s biggest telecommunications company, Deutsche Telekom, as our new partner there,” Andrea Bassani, Euroleague Basketball’s Chief of Television and New Media Rights Officer, said. “The German market for basketball, and in particular for Europe’s premier competition, the Euroleague, is constantly on the rise. With the help of Deutsche Telekom, we are ready to serve German fans with great content and look forward to increased popularity and higher television ratings there in years to come. Deutsche Telekom’s experience in offering local BBL games over several is a guarantee for us that the Euroleague games in Germany throughout the season and especially at the Final Four will be of the highest quality.”
“Euroleague basketball is one of the most attractive European leagues and is a perfect match with our existing offerings. It will make Telekom Basketball even more attractive on all platforms,” says Henning Stiegenroth, head of Sports Marketing at Telekom Deutschland. “With more than 80,000 subscribers in our first season, Telekom Basketball more than met our expectations. We intend to stay on this successful course and expand both the quality and service of our offering.”
The contract also awards Deutsche Telekom pay-TV and free-to-air rights, Internet and mobile rights and both public-viewing and sports-bar rights throughout Germany.
